The first cause of the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion to one's country. There are two types of nationalism; the desire of people who want independence, and the desire for independent nations to show their dominance and prestige. In Europe, countries were trying to prove their power and dominance. This was shown in Serbia through propaganda, education and churches. Schools taught about the great and honorable Slavs and their country, the opposite of what other countries were thought of; like Austria-Hungary. Their religion was celebrated and stories of Martyrs - people fighting, killing and dying for their religion, beliefs and country - were told. Boastfully, Serbia promoted their great and honorable country using newspapers, politicians, posters and parades. Serbia - wanting to reunite all Slav people in The Balkans - were supported by Russia.
